Gardens
are, by nature, multi-sensory
Colours,
shapes, sizes, textures, scents, sounds, movement, taste, flowers,
buds, blooms .... As
anyone who has ever taken a walk through open countryside, a
parklands,
or one of the famous man-made landscapes, like Blenhiem, will have
discovered, Landscapes and Gardens stimulate all the senses
.
However each user of group of
users will have their own requirements in terms of stimulation
required.
In creating wonderful places to
be, we address all types of need. Great outdoor - and, in
some cases, indoor - places for the young and vigorous, the
mature and contemplative, the elderly and infirm, and those with
special needs.

Creating
A New Garden
A garden can be an extra room for your home, a place for
entertaining, a play space for the children, a wildlife paradise,
or a place for solitude, peace and reflection.
A beautiful garden can be enjoyed throughout the year.
Large or small plots, we can help create a garden to suit your own
needs and style.

We also advise on specialist planting and will work with you to
create a planting plan, sourcing specialist plants from a variety
of specialist nurseries through the U.K and overseas.

Eight
steps to a new garden
1. An initial consultation to discuss your requirements and to
ascertain the possibilities and potential of your plot.
2. A site survey to measure and take levels, record aspect, test
the soil, and locate hazards such as drains and cables.
3. An outline 'concept' plan drawn up to show design features and
concepts.
4. A hard landscaping plan produced to show the details of
building and construction works needed to be done before
landscaping begins.
5. A detailed planting plan showing the best locations for each
specially chosen plant.
6. Landscaping specifications to industry standard are produced to
enable accurate quotes from landscaping contractors.
7. Contactors work is closely monitored to ensure quality and
satisfaction.
8. Aftercare and advice are provided to maintain your garden in
top condition throughout the year.

Initial
consultation
The
initial consultation is a starting point to view the site and
discuss your requirements.
For this there is an initial flat
rate consultation fee that is refunded if you commission a full
design from us.
During this informal visit we suggest various hard and soft
landscape design styles and provide planting tips suitable for
your site. We can also bring books and other literature for
you to look through for ideas.
At the end of the consultation you will have a clearer idea of the
possibilities of your site and be in a position, if you wish, to
proceed further to commission a full design when you are ready.

Garden
Design & Planting Plans
Prices and costs for a full design commission will vary depending
on:
-
How complicated or large the
site, garden or final design will be.
-
Whether a design or a design and
build plan (which includes construction details that can be
used to construct the garden yourselves or used by a
landscaper contractor of your choice) is required.
-
Whether you want the design to be
colour rendered, which adds to the attractiveness of what will
be an original piece of artwork.
Included in the design fee is:
-
A client brief for you to
approve.
-
A complete survey of the site
including levels if needed.
-
A site analysis.
-
A soil test.
-
The completed design drawn to
scale.
We will work to a budget, if that is
what is required, but some people prefer to have their garden
built in stages and prefer not to be too restricted at the design
stage.

After designing your garden we are able to quote on the cost of
constructing the garden to your approved design.
We highly recommend finalising the plans for your garden before
any construction takes place.

Garden
& Landscape Management
Once your garden is constructed it is important to have regular
management.
Management is different from maintenance.
Management takes your garden towards the vision created in the
planning stages.
Fortnightly, or monthly management plans can be created for you
upon request.
If your garden has not been designed by us we can still manage
your garden towards your vision, or that created for you by the
garden designer / landscape architect.

Designing
Your Own Garden Course
Designing your own garden can be challenging, relaxing,
stimulating, and
fun.
By following a few simple guidelines you can create your own
garden or at least begin to understand what a garden designer is
talking about.
Either in person or on line our Garden Design course,
devised by Guy Cheswick Benfield, BSc (Hortic), Dipl. Landscape
Design, MCIL, will stretch and reward you.
The programme is not accredited. However it does allow you to
focus on your garden and begin to bring your design dreams into
reality.
You can start whenever and wherever you like.
Designing your own garden can be a very
rewarding challenge and managing your own garden can provide
lessons in patience and perseverance.

The
Healing Garden
As the ancients recognised, gardens, by their very nature can be
therapeutic and relaxing places. Building on their knowledge
and insight, we believe that, today, gardens
can be 'designed' to have an impact on your physical,
mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.
Since each individual has there own specific
requirements, and each location our special interest is in
creating gardens that are designed to impact upon individual
conditions.
The amount of therapy and relaxation provided
will vary from user to user, owner to owner.
At all levels a 'healing' can be
facilitated.
We, therefore, welcome the opportunity
to work with you and your counsellor, psychologist, naturopath, or
GP to create a specially designed environment where well-being
is caused and promoted by controllable multi-sensorial stimuli.
Healing can also facilitated at all stages of a
garden's life.

Multi
sensory stimulation
Multi-sensory stimulation can be
useful in the management of conditions for Special Needs children
and adults.
They can also be of use for the development of young children and
also older children diagnosed with conditions like ADHD.
Homes for the Aged are very often designed with gardens. These
gardens need to be designed in such as way as to effect change
upon the users in beneficial way rather then over stimulating them
or not stimulating them enough.
Benfield ATT's landscape
architects and garden designers specialise in the design,
construction and maintenance of environments where well-being is
caused and promoted by controllable multi-sensorial stimuli.
